Yes, you really did read that headline correctly.

Friday morning at 1:36 am, 5 fire department units in Hutchinson, Ks were dispatched to a duplex to extinguish a fire. When they got there, they found smoke coming from half of the duplex and a pile of clothing smoldering inside the door. They contained the fire and then ended up arresting the resident, 34 year old Ginny M. Griffith.

According to the police report, Griffith said she "used a cigarette lighter to set some towels on fire to kill a spider." Since the other half of the duplex was occupied, Griffith was arrested for aggravated arson and was held in the Reno County jail with a $7,500 bond. Luckily, nobody was injured in the fire and the only damage to the duplex was light smoke damage.

If you ever find yourself in this predicament, just remember, there are a lot of options other than setting your house on fire if you need to kill a spider. I'm sure an exterminator is going to cost a lot less than that $7,500 bond.
