Woman Buys Plywood TVs In Arlington

A woman in Arlington should have caught on to the scam, but didn’t. A man was selling flat-screen TVs out of his car in a parking lot, labeled at $1,999. He was selling them for the low price of $300, however, and Shanae Johnson thought she’d buy in on a great deal. When she got the TVs home, she found them to be nothing but plywood.

During their transaction, Johnson tried to get the man’s phone number or his license plate number, but he stated that if she needed any of that she should just walk away right then. So she started bargaining with him and talked him down $50 per TV, spending $500 on two of them.

She thought she was getting a great deal, since the box looked right and the electronics were wrapped in bubble wrap, but clearly it was the man in the car who got the better deal.

Now Arlington police are getting the word out that people should NOT be purchasing electronics in such a manner, due to the fact that you could be getting faulty electronics, or in the case of Johnson, plywood. Personally, I think when a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Would you have bought a TV from a dude in a parking lot?
