Earlier this week we warned you about thieves stealing checks from mailboxes around the area.  Now, the Wichita Falls Police Department is warning of yet another check theft, this time its renter’s checks that are being targeted.

It seems that thieves are stealing rent payments dropped off by tenants at overnight payment drop slots.  Tenants are advised to stop using these drops for the time being and make rent payments in person.  The WFPD is encouraging apartment complex management to make modifications to these night drop slots to stop the thefts from occurring.

Should you have a check stolen, you’re advised to call police immediately to file a report.  You should then contact your bank, close the account and open a new one.  The non-emergency number to notify police of a check theft is 940-720-5000.
