Wichita Falls’ Marcus Foster Gets More Big 12 Honors

Gerry Images
Marcus Foster, the Hirschi High School alum turned Kansas State Wildcat, keeps getting more and more Big 12 Honors. For the 2nd time this year, he was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer Of The Week this week.
In Saturday’s game against the Texas Longhorns, Foster put up 34 points. He is only the 3rd freshman in K-State history to score more than 30 points in a game. He led the Wildcats to a 74-57 win in the game and even had the crowd changing “Mar-Cus Fos-Ter” at one point.
The official stats and recognition on the Big 12 Website says:
PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Marcus Foster, Kansas State, G, Fr., 6-2, 200, Wichita Falls, Texas/Hirschi
Foster scored a season-high 34 points in Kansas State’s only game of the week, a 74-57 win over No. 15 Texas. The freshman guard was 13-of-16 (.813) from the floor, including 5-of-8 (.625) from 3-point range, as K-State recorded its fourth win over a top 25 opponent this season.  The 13 field goals and five 3-pointers were both season-highs, while the scoring total was the most by a Wildcat freshman since 2008.  Only six freshmen in Big 12 history have scored more points than Foster in a single game.  He has scored in double figures in 18 outings in 2013-14, with three 20-point efforts in his last four contests.
K-State’s coach, Bruce Weber, said of Foster’s impressive game, “We knew it was going to happen. The thing that I like is that he has gotten a little better about being more patient, waiting for good shots, he is our go-to guy.”
You can see video highlights of the game at Kstatesports.com.
Foster and the Wildcats are back in action tonight against their instate rival, Kansas, in the 2nd Sunflower Showdown of the season.  Hopefully Wichita Falls can get behind their hometown kid and wear some purple!
