The severe flooding in Louisiana continues to result in some real-time drama captured on camera.

After a woman and her dog were saved from their sinking car in Baton Rouge, footage of the Coast Guard pulling a woman stranded on a roof to safety has come out.

The flooding has crippled the region, although it's not clear what the circumstances were in this instance. Several parishes in the state have been declared disaster areas.

Eight people have died as a result of the flooding, while 11,000 people have been placed in shelters (and 20,000 people in total had to be rescued) after the area was besieged by more than 20 inches of rain in two days. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards called it a "historic, unprecedented flooding event."
