The full history of martial arts is challenging to compile because of the absence and secrecy of any organized record of practice. There have been a few attempts to establish a timeline of origin and for purposes of brevity we will use Wikipedia’s example. The Bronze Age (2000 to 1000 BC) is the first era to attempt to record techniques used for combat, evidenced by wrestling techniques portrayed through murals in tomb 15 at Beni Hasan.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of  categories of martial arts, all ranging in use and function. The interest in martial arts continues to garner awareness throughout history, it is evident it will always be an activity of interest in societies.
