Vince Gill treated a group of radio programmers and journalists to the public debut of a very special new song he wrote for his wife, contemporary Christian singer Amy Grant.

On Thursday afternoon (Feb. 23), country radio programmers and press attended Universal Music Group Nashville's annual luncheon, where the label hosted a nearly two-hour performance from 14 of the artists on their roster. Each singer treated the audience at the historic Ryman Auditorium to one acoustic song.

Gill was part of the lineup, and he told those in attendance that he'd be playing “the newest song I’ve written” — a song written for and inspired by his wife, Amy Grant, for her birthday.

“I had to be pretty truthful, and I had to be somewhat vulnerable for myself,” Gill says of the song. “We both grew up in completely different lights. She grew up in a church house, [going] two to three times a week, and I grew up in beer joints, and we had completely different family experiences. She had this great church life, and I had no church life.”

The sweet ballad had Gill singing of how when he feels lost he looks towards his wife.

“When my Amy prays / When my Amy prays / That’s when I feel His grace,” he sings on the chorus.

Afterward, the singer stood side stage watching his friend Keith Urban perform. Urban later motioned for Gill to join in on guitar during his special rendition of "Blue Ain't Your Color" during which Gill, Urban and Chris Stapleton wowed concertgoers with an epic five-minute guitar jam, in which each guitarist alternated riffs with each other.
