Ye Gods, this is a fun show to watch!

"The Music Man" is playing weekends through February 18th at the Wichita Theatre and it's a great show for the whole family.

The story revolves around a traveling salesman named Harold Hill (played by Eric West) whose usual m.o. is to sell instruments and band uniforms to the locals, then disappear with the cash before he has to actually produce a band. This time, however, romance enters the picture when Harold meets Marian Paroo (played by Jennifer Crain) and Harold Hill nearly overstays his welcome. The next thing you know "Ya got Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool!"

When Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" first arrived in American theatres in 1957 it won five Tony awards, even beating out "West Side Story" for Best Musical, and it's been a stage favorite ever since. With songs like "76 Trombones", "(Ya Got) Trouble", and "Marian The Librarian" (I'd always wondered where that "phraseology" came from.) it's no big surprise. Aside from a fun storyline and great acting, there is some really tasty barbershop quartet singing in "The Music Man", too.

As if you need another reason to see this show, the Wichita Theatre has just undergone some serious restoration including new seats and freshly revealed vintage artwork on the walls near the stage all of which makes this great theatre even more pleasant. "The Music Man" will continue playing the next two weekends with the final show slated for Saturday evening, February 18th.

If you haven't made Valentine's Day plans, you might also want to make your reservation for the Wichita Theatre's Valentine Masquerade Ball which includes dinner and music from the Black & White Band. If you haven't got a good masquerade costume, don't worry, the Wichita Theatre has a few they'll rent you.

"The Music Man" is produced by Lynn Marshall, Dwayne & Lisa Jackson. In the interest of full disclosure, this is not a paid endorsement for this show, but they did let me in free.
