Toby Keith Plays A Stadium, Lady Antebellum Gets Some Bling – Today In Country Music History

Lady Antebellum “ran” into some gold on this date in 2009, Toby Keith headlined his first stadium show in 2004, Ricky Van Shelton was “wild eyed” in 1989 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 24 July, 2012.

  • Lady Antebellum‘s “I Run To You” was certified gold in 2009.
  • Toby Keith headlined his first stadium date at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts in 2004.
  • Johnny Cash picked up six nominations in the MTV Video Music Awards for his re-make of Nine Inch Nails‘ “Hurt” in 2003.
  • Billy Dean‘s “Billy the Kid” went to Number One in 1992.
  • Kathy Mattea realized her first gold album for Willow In The Wind in 1990.
  • Ricky Van Shelton earned his first platinum award for the Wild-Eyed Dream album in 1989.
  • Ten days after it went gold, the Urban Cowboy soundtrack was certified platinum in 1980. It featured Anne Murray, Kenny Rogers, The Eagles, Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilley, Linda Ronstadt & J.D. Souther, Jimmy Buffett and The Charlie Daniels Band, among others.
  • Marty Robbins signed with MCA Records in 1973.
  • Johnny Cash recorded his first sides for Columbia in 1958.
