Toby Keith was on television on this date in 2010, Lee Greenwood sang for the Queen of England in 1986, Johnny Cash rang the Liberty Bell in 1976 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 04 July, 2012.

  • Toby Keith performed “God Love Her,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and “American Soldier” from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston on the CBS special Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular in 2010.
  • Wynonna‘s “I Saw the Light” hit Number One on the country singles chart in 1992.
  • Lee Greenwood performed “God Bless The U.S.A.” in the New York Harbor as the Queen Elizabeth II arrived from England to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty in 1986.
  • Barbara Mandrell‘s “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” went to Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1981.
  • Johnny Cash celebrated the Bicentennial by ringing a replica of the Liberty Bell 200 times in Washington, D.C. in 1976.
  • Willie Nelson staged his first Fourth of July Picnic in 1973.
  • The Statler Brothers hosted the first “Happy Birthday U.S.A.” concert in Staunton, Virginia in 1970, beginning a 25-year tradition.

I can’t think of a better video for Independence Day, can you?
