  • A new $37-million Country Music Hall of Fame opened in downtown Nashville in 2001.
  • Johnny Cash began four days of recording in producer Rick Rubin's living room in Los Angeles, backed only by his own guitar in 1993. It marked the beginning of work on his American Recordings album.
  • Bill Monroe was a guest at the White House, along with Frank Sinatra, in 1983.
  • Merle Haggard & George Jones recorded the chart-topping single "Yesterday's Wine" in 1982.
  • Eddie Rabbitt's "Gone Too Far" went to Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1980.
