Throwback Thursday: The Lee Brice Song That Garth Brooks Made Famous
In 2007, Lee Brice wasn’t the country superstar we know today. He had just been signed to Curb Records and had released a couple of singles, but none of them had broken into the top of the charts. Yet somehow that year, Lee became part of a record for the highest debut of any song on the Billboard Hot Country Chart. The song was ‘More Than A Memory’ and on September 15, 2007, Garth Brooks‘ version of it was the first song to ever debut at #1.
It wasn’t until August 2009 that Lee would top the charts with his name as the vocalist. ‘Love Like Crazy,” ironically, holds the record for the longest time for a song to be on the charts (46 weeks) before breaking into the top 10.
This is just one of many examples in country music where you wonder, would the song have been a hit with the original artist? Check out the studio version of Lee Brice singing ‘More Than A Memory’ and decided for yourself if it would have gone to #1 like Garth’s version did.
