Unicorns Are Jerks

Amazon is a great Web site to go to for countless items, and though local buying is always a better option, they're a good source if you're looking to buy a book and don't want to leave the house. A friend of mine found this one, and it may be the most interesting thing on that site. It’s titled Unicorns Are Jerks: a coloring book exposing the cold, hard, sparkly truth by Theo Nicole Lorenz.

You’ve probably grown up believing that unicorns were gentle, friendly creatures. Now you’ll learn the truth behind these mythical beasts! The description reads:

Unicorns think they're so great because they're all mysterious and magical, but they can be real jerks sometimes. This coloring book features eighteen examples of unicorns texting in theaters, farting in elevators, eating your leftovers, and generally acting like jerks.

For just $6.58, you can purchase the book as a gift for yourself, your friends, or the child you’ve always wanted to terrorize. The world can no longer live under the misguided belief that these horned beings are the snuggly, cuddly do-gooders that we were raised to believe! The truth will set you free!

User reviews indicate that the book is a must-have. C. Boustead writes:

This coloring book saved my business. Our firm was on the verge of hiring a unicorn as our new public relations rep. At first, it seemed like a dream come true, what with his magical rainbow mane and shimmering eyes but then after reading this book, we decided to do a little more digging on our potential new hire. I'm so glad we did! This guy turned out to be a notorious ringleader in a human trafficking scandal! Bad news folks! He was using his irresistible (sic) horn to lure young children away into a life of depravity and abuse! We owe everything to this important publication. It's really so much more than a coloring book, it's a public service announcement. Don't trust unicorns! Period!

Wandrwoman also chimed in, writing:

Yeah. I dated a Unicorn once and he was a real jerk! Thought his horn was all that....and believe me, it wasn't. I learned my lesson. Open your eyes, people!

But not everyone is into the unicorn bashing. librariana understands that not every unicorn can be pigeon-holed into the “jerk” category:

Unicorns are a complex species. Not every Unicorn is a jerk. Some Unicorns, like the ones pictured here are definitely unkind, but others are unbelievably awesome. In fact, some of my best friends are Unicorns. They are a proud race, who deserves more than this stereotypical caricature. I just hate it when a few negative stereotypes get blown into ridiculously polarizing statements. Imagine unicorns as more than a typical single-horned horse-like thug.

That makes one stop to wonder, are unicorns really the jerks that they’re portrayed to be? Are some nicer than others? When you enter a movie theater, should you avoid them and their texting during a movie, or embrace their uniqueness and sit near them anyway?

What have your unicorn experiences been?
