The Everly Brothers Get A Star, Carrie Underwood Gets Surprised – Today In Country Music History

Randy Travis surprised Carrie Underwood at the Hollywood Bowl on this date in 2010, the POTUS went to the Country Music Association awards on this date in 1991 (Do you remember who the president was in ’91?), the Everly Brothers got a star in 1986 and more. Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 02 October, 2012.

  • Carrie Underwood performed her first concert at the historic Hollywood Bowl in 2010. Randy Travis was a surprise guest on “I Told You So” and rock guitarist Orianthi joins Carrie on “Last Name.”
  • George Bush became the first president to attend the Country Music Association awards, where Garth Brooks earned four trophies: Entertainer of the Year; Single (“Friends In Low Places”); Album (“No Fences”); and Music Video (“The Thunder Rolls”), in 1991.
  • Gene Autry died in 1998.
  • The Everly Brothers received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 1986.

 

 

  • The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band‘s “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album was released in 1972. The project featured Roy Acuff, Jimmy Martin, Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, Vassar Clements, Junior Huskey, Norman Blake and Bashful Brother Oswald.
  • Banjo great Earl Scruggs was involved in a serious car accident in 1955.
  • Elvis Presley made his only appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, singing “Blue Moon Of Kentucky,” in 1954.
