Sugarland wanted to – and did – perform at Red Rocks Amphitheater on this date in 2008, Toby Keith hooked up with the guitarist from Aerosmith for an Elvis special in 2007 and Tim McGraw taught us all a lesson in how to live back in 2004.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 24 August, 2011.

  • Sugarland performed “Want To” and “All I Want To Do” at a Green Sunday concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver in 2008. The show was associated with the Democratic National Convention, and also featured Sheryl Crow and Dave Matthews.
  • Toby Keith was joined by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry for a version of “Mystery Train” during a show at the Darien Lake Theme Resort Park near Buffalo, New York in 2007. The performance was filmed by ABC-TV for the two-hour special, Elvis: Viva Las Vegas.
  • Tim McGraw‘s Live Like You Were Dying CD was released in 2004.
  • Jo Dee Messina‘s album Burn was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies in 2000.
  • Joe Diffie and Debra Diffie divorced in 1994.
  • Radney Foster filed for divorce from Mary Springs Scarborough Foster in 1994.
  • Waylon Jennings was arrested on a charge of conspiracy and possession of cocaine in 1977.
  • Johnny Paycheck recorded the Number One hit “Take This Job And Shove It” in 1977.
  • Hank Snow recorded his last Number One hit, “Hello Love,” in 1973.
  • Jeannie C. Riley‘s “Harper Valley P.T.A.” entered the country chart in 1968.

Here’s what happens when you put a hard core country singer together with a rock n roll guitar player on an old Elvis tune. Hey! It’s Elvis! You know it’s gonna be good!
