Shania Twain Goes Diva, Don Gibson Feels Lonesome – Today In Country Music History

Lady Antebellum picked up a triple-platinum single on this date in 2010, Shania Twain went all Diva on us in 1998 and Don Gibson was feeling Lonesome at the top of the country charts in 1958.

  • Lady Antebellum picked up a triple-platinum single for “Need You Now” in 2010.
  • Shania Twain joined Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan and Carole King at New York’s Beacon Theatre for a taping of VH1 Divas Live in 1998.
  • Lorrie Morgan charted her first Number One hit with “Five Minutes” in 1990.
  • Hank Williams Jr. recorded “A Country Boy Can Survive” in 1981.
  • Barbara Mandrell‘s remake of the R&B hit “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right” toped the Billboard country chart in 1979.
  • George Jones‘ Number One single, “She Thinks I Still Care,” charted in 1962.
  • Don Gibson‘s “Oh Lonesome Me” claimed the top spot on the Billboard country chart in 1958.
  • Eddy Arnold‘s Number One single, “Kentucky Waltz,” charted in 1951.
