Seussical The Musical Comes To The Wichita Theatre This Weekend
A downtown landmark at 10th and Indiana for more than 100 years, the Wichita Theatre has played host to any number of shows from the early days of vaudeville to black and white “Talkie” movies to color movies to big name concerts to traveling tour groups and stage plays.
Every weekend this month you’ll see Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, the Grinch (Admit it, you started singing the song, you know you did!), the Mayor of Whoville and more of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters as the Wichita Theatre presents Seussical The Musical.
With 35 or so characters in the cast, nearly 30 musical numbers and story lines drawn from more than a dozen of Theodor Seuss Geisel’s most popular stories this show should be entertaining for everyone from 3 to 97. (If you’re 98 or older, go ahead and catch the show anyway, you’ll still have a great time!)
With the opening of the Performing Arts Center in the old Noble Hardware space, the Wichita Theatre has greatly expanded its role in the world of live theatre in Wichita Falls. There is plenty of space to meet and visit with your friends before the show, the snack bar is much larger and the grand staircase is … well … grand!
Now in its 103rd year, the Wichita Theatre has several more shows lined up in 2011 with Hairspray opening in July, The Jungle Book in August, Narnia the Musical, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, White Christmas and more scheduled later in the year.
Seussical The Musical performances are scheduled for every Friday and Saturday in June, call the Wichita Theatre box office at 940.723.9037 or visit them online to make your reservations.
Nicholas Long (Horton the Elephant), Justin Partridge (The Cat in the Hat) and Lara Clapp (Director) dropped by the studio Thursday afternoon, click here to listen to their visit.
If you still haven’t made your mind up as to whether or not you’re going to see the show, just remember what The Cat in the Hat says:
“I can see that you’ve got quite a mind for your age!
Why, one Think and you dragged me right onto the stage!
Now, I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue
With a Cat such as me, and a Thinker like you!”
I “Think” this is a show I’m really going to enjoy!
