Reba McEntire Joins Hall Of Fame, Jerry Lee Lewis Booed Off The Stage – Today In Country Music History

Reba McEntire was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on this date in 2011, Alabama announced their retirement in 2002, Jerry Lee Lewis was booed off the stage in 1958 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 22 May, 2012.

  • Reba McEntire, Jean Shepard and songwriter Bobby Braddock were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
  • Rascal Flatts‘ “Mayberry” claimed the top spot in Billboard in 2004.
  • Have You Forgotten? earned Darryl Worley the first gold album of his career in 2003.
  • Alabama announced during the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2002 that they intended to retire after a 2003 farewell tour.
  • Garth BrooksDouble Live set a new record for country concert albums in 2000, as it was certified for shipments of 13 million units.
  • Royce Kendall of the Kendalls died at age 63 in 1998.
  • Clint Black‘s second album, Put Yourself In My Shoes, was certified triple platinum in 1997.
  • CBS aired Willie Nelson The Big Six-0: An All-Star Birthday Celebration, featuring Ray Charles, B.B. King, Paul Simon, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Travis Tritt, Lyle Lovett, Marty Stuart, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, in 1993.
  • Freddy Fender gained his first gold single for “Before The Next Teardrop Falls” in 1975.
  • Jerry Lee Lewis arrived in London in 1958, where he admitted he was married to his teenage cousin, Myra. He was booed off stage and was forced to cancel 34 of his 37 scheduled concerts.
