Should Governments Regulate What People Eat? – Survey of the Day

It’s another Question Of The Day about foods!

In an effort to fight obesity and heart disease, Denmark has imposed a tax on foods high in saturated fats. Believed to be the first tax of its kind in the world, the tax applies to foods like butter, milk, cheese, pizza, oils and meat.

In 2004, the country made it illegal for any food to have more than two percent trans fats and last year it increased taxes on ice cream, chocolate and sweets by 25 percent, and also increased taxes on soft drinks.

About 10 percent of Denmark’s population is considered obese, which is low compared to about one-third of adults in the U.S. So if they’re making bod moves like this to get people to stay away from junk food, should we?
