In May, Bertha the Bunny's hips collapsed. The vet said that she wouldn't be able to walk again and told her owner that the most humane thing to do would be to put her down.

Melanie James, who adopted Bertha as a baby four years ago, didn't think that was the best option. She says, ""When the vet said the nicest thing to do would be to put her down, she still had so much life. "I've actually seen dogs in wheelchairs and I thought 'if it works for a dog, then why not a rabbit?'

Melanie adapted a dog wheelchair to fit Bertha and it ended up working better than she could have hoped. She believes that, while the wheelchair works for now, eventually Bertha will be able to get mobility back!
