A three car accident closed a large section of Central Freeway in Wichita Falls this morning. The accident occurred near the Texas Travel Information Center at around 5:30 am.

Original reports were that landscape boulders had fallen from a truck. A press release from the Wichita Falls Police Department on Tuesday afternoon indicates that officials are not sure how the boulders go onto the roadway.

Eyewitness's say a man who's car struck one of boulders got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage and was struck by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at United Regional. He has now been identified as 76-year-old Ramon Hernandez of Wichita Falls.

Hernandez' body has been sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner for autopsy.  No other injuries were reported.

The crash investigation is ongoing and investigators are asking anyone with information on how the boulders ended up on the roadway to contact Crash Investigator Paul Harper at 940-397-2516
