Montgomery Gentry Hit Number One, Willie Nelson Hits The Road – Today In Country Music History

Montgomery Gentry had the number one Country song in the nation on this date in 2004, Alison Krauss became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1993, Willie Nelson was on the silver screen in 1980 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 03 July, 2012.

  • Montgomery Gentry charted their first Number One single in Billboard with “If You Ever Stop Loving Me” in 2004.
  • Trisha Yearwood earned her first quadruple-platinum album for (Songbook) A Collection Of Hits in 2001.
  • Grand Ole Opry star Johnny Russell died at age 61 in Nashville following a long battle with diabetes in 2001.
  • Alison Krauss was introduced by Garth Brooks as she became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1993.
  • Garth Brooks claimed the Number One spot on the Billboard country chart with “That Summer” in 1993.
  • “Any Day Now” took Ronnie Milsap to Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1982.
  • Honeysuckle Rose made its world premiere in Austin in 1980. Willie Nelson starred in the movie about a touring country star, using the picture to introduce his song “On The Road Again”.
  • Trigger, Roy Rogers‘ horse, died at age 33 in 1965.
  • Johnny Cash was discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1954.
