Miranda Lambert Says Eric Church Should Be ‘Groveling’ for ‘Stupid’ Comments

If you haven’t been following the drama surrounding Eric Church’s inflammatory comments in a Rolling Stone interview, allow us to fill you in. Church came down especially hard on the reality TV judges, saying “If I was concerned about my legacy, there’s no f—ing way I would ever sit there [and be a reality-show judge].” Understandably, this stirred some negative attention from ‘The Voice‘ coach (and Season 2 winner!) Blake Shelton and his ever-devoted wife, Miranda Lambert. Church has since apologized for offending his peers (though he stood by his comments), but Miranda wants to see him beg.

When he bashed them, it’s clear Church wasn’t thinking about country mega-stars who got their start on singing competition shows like ‘American Idol’ and ‘Nashville Star’ — including Lambert, who invited the ‘Springsteen’ singer out on her tour back in 2012. The long list also includes hotshots like Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Chris Young, Scotty McCreery and Kelly Clarkson, among others.

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, Lambert took notice of Church’s faux pas and immediately called him on it in 140 characters, writing on Twitter, “Thanks Eric Church for saying I’m not a real artist. Or @kelly_clarkson, @carrieunderwood & @KeithUrban. You’re welcome for the tour in 2010.”

It only took a few hours for the popular country singer (or maybe just his publicity team) to notice the uproar in the pro-reality show country community. Church issued an apology of sorts soon after, adding that he has a lot of respect for artists like Underwood, Clarkson and “his friend” Lambert.

In a new radio interview with KISS Country in Florida, Lambert said that she would forgive the incident, but that Church has his work cut out for him when it comes to truly making up for his snide remarks. According to the Boot, when asked how she will react when she runs into Church, Lambert replied, “I’ll be fine. I’m sure that he would be groveling because he should.”

“It’s sad that he probably got roped into a really bad interview,” she added later . “I think it’s sad that they portrayed him that way and that he actually portrayed himself that way and cut down his friends. He probably didn’t realize he was cutting down his friends when he did it, but either way, he said something stupid and it’s going to take a long time to make it up to people that he offended.”

Although Lambert is known for being outright with her opinion, she is usually pretty quick to forgive. After all, she doesn’t keep Shelton down for his notoriously flirty comments about other women. And a few months after she tweet-battled Ashton Kutcher over his questionable appearance at the ACMs, she posed for a photo with him when the two crossed paths at the Kentucky Derby just this past weekend.

Hopefully, she and Church will be able to make amends soon, too.
