Merle Haggard Is Fightin’ Mad, Luke Bryan Gets The Shakes – Today In Country Music History

Luke Bryan was likin’ what the Country Girls were doing on this date in 2011, Lonestar was Amazed in 2000 and Merle Haggard was at the very top of the Country music charts on this date back in 1970.

  • California Governor Ronald Reagan pardoned Merle Haggard in 1972 for a 1957 attempted robbery that landed the singer in prison.
  • Merle Haggard‘s “The Fightin’ Side Of Me” went to Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1970.
  • Ernest Tubb debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1943.
