Mayor Barham Goes For A Ride In A Curtiss Jenny [PHOTOS]

WWI Curtiss Jenny (Photo by Dave Diamond)

Did you realize that there are only five flight ready WWI era Curtiss Jenny aircraft left in the world?

And we have one right here in Wichita Falls! Not only do we have one, but it actually gets flown several times a year!

Our Jenny is housed at the WWI Call Field Living History Museum at Kickapoo Downtown Airpark and is flown on the first Saturday of every month if the weather allows. Along with the Jenny, the museum also has a running Staff Car and Troop Carrier and both were out last Saturday morning as Wichita Falls Mayor Glenn Barham went for a ride.

While I didn’t get to go for a ride in the Jenny, I did get the chance to hop into the back of the 1916, or thereabouts, Ford Troop Carrier! Not the kind of thing I get to do every day!

Visit the WWI Call Field Living History Museum website for more information about the Jenny and its flight schedule. Then bring the kids out to see it. A flying Jenny is a very special thing!

The Jenny’s pilot for the day was David Martin, a Texas born champion aerobatic pilot. David usually flies aircraft just a bit more modern than our WWI biplane. And has been the Team Captain for the United States Aerobatic Team in international competition.
