Lee Ann Womack Danced on the west lawn of the United States capital in Washington, D.C. on this date in 2006, Keith Urban started a five week run at the top of the Country charts in 2005, Toby Keith wished he’d been a Cowboy in 1993 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 28 May, 2012.

  • Lee Ann Womack performed “I Hope You Dance” and “America, The Beautiful” during the National Memorial Day Concert from the west lawn of the Capitol in Washington, D.C in 2006. Broadcast by PBS, the event also featured Big & Rich.
  • Keith Urban‘s “Making Memories Of Us” began a five-week stay at the top of the Billboard country singles chart in 2005.
  • Brad Paisley made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 1999.
  • Vince Gill‘s album, High Lonesome Sound, was released in 1996.
  • Tim McGraw scored his first Number One hit with “Don’t Take the Girl” in 1994.
  • Toby Keith‘s debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” topped the charts in 1993.
  • Kathy Mattea‘s “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” was Number One for the second consecutive week in 1988.
  • Barbara Mandrell married Ken Dudney in 1967.
