Since becoming the very first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson has earned success as both a country and pop star, and even tried her hand at some acting ... and come October, she'll officially be a published author. The singer will be releasing her very first children's book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, on Oct. 4.

Clarkson has signed a book deal with HarperCollins Publishers to release the project, which will also feature an original lullaby written and performed by the artist. According to a press releaseRiver Rose and the Magical Lullaby is a picture book that tells the story of the night before a little girl's first trip to the zoo.

"River Rose is so excited to see the animals and ride the carousel that she can’t fall asleep — until a magical lullaby from her mom sends her off on an amazing adventure," the release details. "Soon, River Rose is hopscotching with the hippos, slip-sliding with the penguins and dancing with the big brown bears."

The main character in the book, which is illustrated by Laura Hughes, is, of course, inspired by Clarkson's daughter, River Rose.

"When kids read River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, my hope is that it inspires their imagination and reminds them that they should always follow their dreams -- no matter where they lead," Clarkson says.

Adds David Linker, executive editor at HarperCollins Children's Books, "The first time I heard Kelly talk about this project, I knew it was something special. Her passion for the story and musical ear for the rhythm and melody that make for great storytelling was evident from the very first draft. It’s been a true labor of love."

Clarkson began teasing the announcement of the children's book in early February, via clues on Facebook, including an adorable video of her daughter backstage.

River Rose will celebrate her second birthday in June -- and she will soon be a big sister. Clarkson and husband Brandon Blackstock are expecting their second child, a boy. The couple met at the 2012 Super Bowl, got engaged later that year and got married in October of 2013.

Pre-order information for River Rose and the Magical Lullaby is available via Clarkson's official website.
