Kellie Pickler Gets A Record Deal, Lonestar Is Amazed – Today In Country Music History

Kellie Pickler signed a record deal on this date in 2006, Lonestar was Amazed in 1999, Merle Haggard was an Okie in 1969 and more.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 17 July, 2012.

  • American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler was signed to a recording contract with BNA Records in 2006.
  • The Grand Ole Opry celebrated The Dukes Of Hazzard in 2004, with appearances by former cast members Sonny Shroyer, Catherine Bach, Rick Hurst and Ben Jones. Andy Griggs, a friend of Waylon Jennings, led them in the theme song, “Good Ol’ Boys.”
  • Tim McGraw‘s “Live Like You Were Dying” spent the first of seven weeks at the top of the Billboard country chart in 2004.
  • Lonestar‘s “Amazed” began an eight-week stay atop the country singles chart in 1999.
  • Alan Jackson‘s “Chattahoochee” began a four-week stay at Number One on the country singles chart in 1993.
  • Randy Travis‘ “On The Other Hand” was released in 1985. The single failed, but was re-released the following year and became a Number One hit.
  • Merle Haggard recorded the studio version of “Okie From Muskogee” at the Capitol Recording Studios in Hollywood in 1969.
  • Johnny Cash made his last recording for Sun Records in 1958.
  • Elvis Presley made his first live appearance since recording at Sun Studios, singing “That’s All Right” and “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” at Memphis’ Bon Air Club in 1954.
