Keith Urban showed the current crop of contestants how it's done in the big leagues with a high-energy performance of 'Long Hot Summer' on 'American Idol' Thursday night (March 28).

The country star and 'Idol' Season 12 judge is gearing up to go out on tour this summer with Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch, and 'Long Hot Summer' seems like a shoo-in for his set list. Its up-tempo, bouncing rhythm track and breezy lyric are a perfect summer treat, and while Urban was playing Wednesday night, you could practically picture the song blaring out of car windows -- not to mention fans crowding forward in amphitheaters across the country.

Urban is not only one of country's most seasoned live performers, he's also one of the few real instrumentalists among the current crop of stars. He didn't disappoint, turning in a brief-but-blazing guitar solo that aptly demonstrated his trademark blend of tone, phrasing and technical chops.

Host Ryan Seacrest called his performance "seamless and wonderful" before comically turning it over to the other judges for comment -- but he needn't have worried. From the look of it, Keith Urban will easily survive another week on 'American Idol.'
