Josh Turner Takes The Train, Sawyer Brown Takes The Dirt Road – Today In Country Music History

Josh Turner took the train and picked up some gold on this date in 2006, Sawyer Brown was taking Dirt Roads in 1993, the Everly Brothers played the Grand Ole Opry for the first time in 1957 and more.

  • Josh Turner earned the first two gold singles of his career for “Long Black Train” and “Your Man” in 2006.
  • Mary Chapin Carpenter married contractor Timmy Smith in Batesville, Virginia in 2002.
  • Brad Paisley‘s debut album, Who Needs Pictures, was released in 1999.
  • Sawyer Brown received its first gold album for The Dirt Road in 1993.
  • Diamond Rio scored their first Number One hit with “Meet In The Middle” in 1991.
  • Ronnie Milsap earned the first Number One single of his career with “Pure Love,” written by Eddie Rabbitt, in 1974.
  • Elvis Presley‘s birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi, was opened to the public in 1971.
  • Stu Phillips joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1967.
  • Dolly Parton moved to Nashville a day after her high school graduation in 1964 and met her future husband, Carl Dean, at a laundromat.
  • The Everly Brothers debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1957.
