Johnny Cooper is playing at Denim and Diamonds Thursday night (March 20th) and took some time today to call in and talk to Drew. Johnny was in Chicago, but was excited to make the trip back to Texas for the show tomorrow.

Johnny has a new single coming out in April called 'Thank You.' He talked about how the recording of the song involved a full string section. "It was fun to do some different stuff like that," Johnny said. It definitely show how much his sound has grown since he was just a teenager playing in Wichita Falls.

Speaking of growing up here, Drew mentioned how a ticket winner had told him he was excited to see Johnny live since he had gone to High School with him. Johnny said it's always a great time to play in his hometown. Besides just getting to go back to his house after the show, instead of the tour bus, he gets to see people he hasn't seen in years. It's nice to run into old friends and fans who have seen him play around here for many years.

Johnny also talked about the new EP he has coming out soon. It's called 'The Red Sessions' and has 5 songs that really show a good mix of all the different types of music that Johnny likes to write. This brought Drew to ask him what his type of music could be labeled as. Johnny says it's progressed to being more of a pop/rock kinda sound, but the Texas music roots definitely are an influence.
