Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles surprised Kenny Chesney when she “Stayed” in 2008 and Elvis Presley did a bit of recording at the Sun Studios in Memphis in 1954.

Here’s the rundown for Today In Country Music History for 05 July, 2011.

  • Jennifer Nettles made an unannounced appearance to perform “Stay” during Kenny Chesney‘s stadium date at Nashville’s LP Field before a crowd of 49,000 people in 2008.
  • Tanya Tucker had her first baby, Presley Tanita, in 1989.
  • George Jones‘ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” hit Number One in 1980.
  • John Conlee debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1980.
  • Merle Haggard‘s Number One single, “Workin’ Man Blues,” charted in 1969.
  • Jack Greene climbed to the top of the Billboard country singles chart with “Statue Of A Fool” in 1969.
  • Elvis Presley recorded “That’s All Right” at Memphis’ Sun Recording Studio in 1954.

That sounds like a good excuse to listen to Elvis for a couple minutes!
