Gretchen Wilson Parties, George Strait Carries The Love – Today In Country Music History

Gretchen Wilson showed up for the party in 2004, Garth Brooks watched the sun come up in 1993 and George Strait was at the top of the charts for four weeks in 1997.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 19 July, 2011.

  • Gretchen Wilson‘s “Here For The Party” album went double-platinum in 2004.
  • George Strait began a four-week stay at the top of the Billboard chart with “Carrying Your Love With Me” in 1997.
  • Love Can Build A Bridge became The Judds‘ fifth platinum album in 1993.
  • Garth Brooks‘ “Ain’t Going Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)” was released in 1993.
  • The brakes failed on Dottie West‘s car on the way to the Grand Ole Opry in 1991. She lost control and hit a wall, but sustained only minor injuries.
  • Mickey Gilley‘s version of the Buddy Holly song “True Love Ways” went to Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1980.
  • Lefty Frizzell died in Nashville at the age of 47 in 1975.
  • Kenny Rogers & the First Edition‘s “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town” charted in 1969.
  • Sun Records released Elvis Presley‘s first single, “That’s All Right,” in 1954.
