Going from raising dragons to raising the leader of the human resistance against Skynet, ‘Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke has won the role of Sarah Connor in ‘Terminator: Genesis’.

According to Variety, Clarke and ’21 Jump Street’ star Brie Larson screen tested for the role, though Clarke was the early favorite going in.  Clarke will be joining the cast which includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is returning to the franchise after missing out on ‘Terminator: Salvation’, and Jason Clarke from ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, who is currently in talks for the role of Sarah’s son John.  The next major role to be cast is that of resistance fighter and John’s father, Kyle Reese.  The reported top three contenders for the role of Reese include Boyd Holbrook from ‘The Host’, Garrett Hedlund from ‘Tron Legacy’, and Nicholas Hoult from ‘X-Men: The First Class’.

Nothing it known of the plot at this point other than it will serve as a reboot and introduction to a stand-alone trilogy.  The release date is set for July 1, 2015 and will be directed by ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ director Alan Taylor.

It’s also interesting to note that both the star and director came from ‘Game of Thrones’, which also stars Lena Headey, who played Sarah Conner in the television series ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’.
