Fun Things to Do – The Wichita Falls Railroad Museum

Wichita Falls is ripe with activities, but sometimes it’s the little gems tucked away that you don’t think about. Whether you have kids or you’re just looking for something different to do, take a trip to the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum.

Located at 500 9^th Street, admission is just $2 and you can take your time walking through.

According to the museum’s Web site, The Wichita Falls Railroad museum was founded in 1980 and is part of the National Register Historic District of downtown Wichita Falls. It began with the donation of a Burlington Northern Caboose which was donated to Mr. R. E. Doc Waters, a founding member of the museum. Over the years the museum has seen additions, changes, and even change of location, with the final resting place being where it is now.

You’re free to go through many of the 15 rolling stock units on display, take a walk through history through photographs and ledgers, and see memorabilia that has been used by the railroad over the years. It’s also a great place for gatherings and birthdays, with a car set up that makes an ideal location.

One thing you don't want to miss while you're there is ringing the bell in the steam engine. It doesn't matter if you're 8 or 88, it's fun!

Though the cost for visiting is only $2, the museum is non-profit and can always use extra funds. If you’re considering a historic location to give a few extra dollars to, this is a worthwhile organization.

Hours are 11:00am to 3:00pm each Saturday, weather permitting in winter months. Special events may be planned in advance for other days of the week. It’s fun for the whole family and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
