It’s time for Freedom Fest at Sheppard AFB.  The gate opens to the public at 3:30 pm Saturday but there is a major change to consider this year: you must enter at the hospital gate, rather than the Missile Road Gate.

Missile Road is undergoing major construction and is closed for the remainder of 2015.  While the change in entrance is new, some rules that have been in place are simply a given.  Among them:

  • Knives and firearms are prohibited on base
  • Lawn chairs or camp chairs are OK
  • No backpacks
  • No large diaper bags
  • No outside food or drinks
  • Service animals are OK, pets in general are not
  • You must have a valid ID to present if asked

Shuttle buses will be available to transport the public from parking to the event site.  Base Buses will run every 15 minutes during Freedom Fest on a continuous loop.  There will be security checkpoints prior to getting on the bus.  If you don’t ride you will be checked again at the event entry.  Strollers and wagons will be hand-searched at the gate. Please bring only necessary items in a small diaper bag, subject to hand-search at the gate.  You can return to your vehicle during the show to get extra clothes, re-stock diaper items, etc.  There will be no eating or drinking allowed on the buses

There will be food and drink vendors.  While entrance to the event is free, admittance to the kids play area is $5 per child for the day.  And of course, there will be music and lots of it.  This year’s performers are Mike Ryan, Infinite Journey and Estillo Tejano.  Fireworks get underway at 10 pm.
