A former member of the Texas Senate from Wichita Falls has died.  Former District 30 Senator Ray Farabee passed away at his home in Austin on Thursday.  He was 81 years old.

Born in Wichita Falls on November 22, 1932, Farabee was a 1950 graduate of Wichita Falls High School.  A life-long democrat, he served District 30 for seven consecutive terms from 1975 to 1988.

He left the Texas Senate in 1988 to take a position as general counsel with his alma mater, The University of Texas.  Farabee retired from UT in 2000.  Farabee is credited with authoring over 240 bills which ultimately were signed into law.

Farabee’s son David went on to serve six terms in the Texas House of Representatives.  His late wife Helen championed mental health issues across the state.  The Helen Farabee Center in Wichita Falls is named in her honor.  She died in 1988.

According to the Texas Tribune, a memorial service will be held in the Capitol's Senate Chamber at 2 p.m. on December 5th.   A private burial at the Texas State Cemetery will follow on December 6th.  Services are under the direction of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home of Austin.
