• LeAnn Rimes became the first major star to sing the national anthem prior to the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville in 2009.

• The Dixie Chicks appeared nude on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 2003, with words such as "boycott," "traitors" and "free speech" superimposed on their bodies, as they discussed the controversy that came from an anti-Bush comment by Natalie Maines.
