A photo of a woman breastfeeding her baby may have a negative impact on her husband's job.

A firefighter in Las Cruces, N.M. is under investigation after his wife posed for a photo in which she was breastfeeding in his uniform.

Tara Ruby, a photographer based in El Paso, Tex., is the one who shot the picture as part of a series spotlighting mothers breastfeeding in uniform. The photo made the rounds on social media.

"The intention has been since the very beginning to show that a mom can be a full-time mom and still work a full-time job and do both equally at the same time," Ruby said.

The firefighter, who has not been identified, could be subject to unpaid leave for the photo.

A spokesman for the city of Las Cruces said defining what's wrong with the picture is kind of hazy, partly because there's no mention whether or not spouses of firefighters can put on their uniforms.

Ruby, meanwhile, is appalled at the reaction. “They’re not supporting the normalizing of breastfeeding...or supporting anyone coming in and breastfeeding in uniform." she said. “It just seems like it’s a double standard. There’s fireman costumes for Halloween — and that’s OK? Or is it strictly because she was breastfeeding and that’s the problem?”
