An early morning fire at Barwise Junior High School delayed classes and caused a temporary panic.

The fire broke out at around 7:30 am, just as many students were arriving on campus. School officials evacuated those who were already in the building to the schools track.

The fire was confined to an air conditioning unit on the schools roof. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread beyond the roof.

School officials say they should have a damage estimate later today.  No injuries were reported and classes were able to continue as scheduled.
