After the summer we've endured, it's nice to think of cooler weather and a change of season. One of the things that comes along with the temperature change is Falls Fest, the annual party in Lucy Park put on by the ladies from the Junior League of Wichita Falls. This year's event is Friday, September 30th and Saturday, October 1st.

For most of us, Falls Fest is synonymous with an outdoor concert in the evening and the feature performers this year are the Josh Abbott Band on Friday night and K.C. & The Sunshine Band on Saturday night. But Falls Fest is much more than that.

It's also food. Lots and lots of food. You'll find vendors with Cheesecake On A Stick, Texas Taters, Funnel Cake (of course), Indian Tacos, Fried Catfish, even Fried Twinkies all waiting to tickle your taste buds.

Falls Fest is also a lot of fun for the kids! There are carnival rides, a petting zoo, even a makeshift Spider Maze made up of empty appliance boxes and a bunch of collapsible tubing.

While the Spider Maze may not be the most high tech of diversions, the kids absolutely love it!

Of course there are also the inflatable bouncy houses and slides, too.

All of these things take place throughout the weekend, but get the most attention during the day on Saturday. By the way, Falls Fest is open from 5 - 11pm on Friday, and from 11am to 11pm on Saturday.

While the Main Stage acts don't usually get started until 7 or so each evening, there's a huge variety music and dance performances to enjoy on the other stages both days. You'll find everything from local bands like Mr. Meaner and Exit Strategy on Friday, to Bayou Funk Debris, the Shantell Band, the Black & White Band and more on Saturday. There will also be appearances from cloggers, the Caribbean student dance group, even belly dancers throughout the day on several stages in Lucy Park.

And then there's the feature entertainment! This year's Falls Fest weekend brings Under The Inflluence and the Josh Abbott Band to the main stage on Friday evening and Slab Rat and K.C. & The Sunshine Band on Saturday night. Pull on your boogie shoes, because when K.C. & The Sunshine Band hits the stage it's gonna be a party!

The Junior League of Wichita Falls has done a great job at bringing outstanding performers to our fair city while keeping ticket prices very affordable. Tickets are just $6 in advance and $8 at the gate, $10 at the gate if you arrive after 5pm.

See you at Falls Fest 2011!
