Austin is known for being … Well … Weird.

And Willie Nelson is known for smoking cigarettes that didn’t come from the the rack behind the clerk in the convenience store.

But did Willie Nelson actually get “Stoned” in Austin on 4/20 day?

The answer is … Yes. But it’s not what you’re thinking.

Willie Nelson was in Austin, Texas on Friday (April 20th) to help the city unveil an eight-foot statue of himself. The day coincided with the city’s day of protest for marijuana legalization.

Willie appropriately entertained fans with a new song called “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” during the ceremony.

The privately funded statue now stands in front of the Austin City Limits Studio. Kris Kristofferson was on had to congratulate Willie.

April 20, or 4/20, is slang for smoking marijuana and a day pro-legalization forces have used for annual gatherings to demonstrate in support of the cause, but event organizers invited Willie to the statue unveiling on that particular day only because he was in town to participate in a Johnny Cash tribute that night.

Here’s the video from the statue unveiling.
