From time to time Wichita Falls is visited by some of the brightest and best musical acts from around the world. Brantley Gilbert’s Taste Of Country Christmas Tour on December 9th immediately comes to mind, as does the Trans Siberian Orchestra performance on November 11th, but the show that’s really got me excited is the Davis – Miller – May performance scheduled for this Friday (November 4th) at The Kemp At The Forum on Speedway.

If you’ve ever picked up an acoustic guitar and hammered out a tune or two, this is a show you’re going to love! Let’s take a look at the three individuals that make up this incredibly talented trio.

Grammy Award winning music industry professional, Brad Davis has worked with the likes of Willie Nelson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and most recently Billy Bob Thornton with the Boxcars.  He can be found in the studio, on the stage, or writing music for major motion pictures.  His guitar technique is world renowned and has earned him the nick name “The Shredder.” Of the three, Brad is the only one that I know has been to Wichita Falls before. He has done solo performances and shows in conjunction with Beppe Gambetta at the Kemp Center for the Arts.

Dan Miller is a talented acoustic bass player and vocalist.  He is the founder, owner and publisher of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine.   This publication has single handedly changed the acoustic guitar world.  He has also developed a unique teaching system that is demonstrated in a workshop format as he performs nationwide. Unfortunately, we will not be treated to one of his workshops this visit.

Multi-instrumentalist Tim May has been working in the Nashville area for over 20 years as a session player, band member, and solo performer.  He has toured with Patty Loveless, John Cowan and has been a regular on the Grand Ole Opry with banjo picker extraordinaire, Mike Snider.  Tim is an accomplished musician on the guitar, mandolin, slide guitar and banjo.   He is also a gifted singer and songwriter.  He has a strong interest in the “AmeriCeltic” sound, which is a delightful mix of Irish, Scottish, Old Time and Bluegrass tunes.

As a trio, their individual talents mesh and intertwine to showcase the strongest talents of each and the result is pure musical magic. They are currently touring to promote their new CD, Doves, Crows & Buzzards. Expect to hear incredible instrumental pieces, breathtaking vocal performances ranging from country to blues to bluegrass to folk to swing and a healthy dose of humor when Davis – Miller – May take the stage.

This show is part of a capital raising campaign at The Kemp At The Forum as they embark on an extensive project to restore luster and polish to this grand, historic Wichita Falls building.

The doors will open at 6:30 and the show will start at 7:00 Friday night. Tickets are $20.00 per person with a special discount of $15.00 for military and students with valid ID.  Tickets may be purchased at The Kemp at the Forum at 2120 Speedway Ave or at the Kemp Center for the Arts at 1300 Lamar.
