With the possibility of a city wide smoking ban coming in the future, the city of Wichita Falls wants to help anyone who thinks now is the time to stop smoking. They will be offering free classes and there are 4 opportunities for you to be a part of it. Here's the press release from the Wichita Falls Public Information Office:

FREE FreshStart Smoking Cessation Classes

Wichita Falls, Texas- For area residents who are ready to quit smoking, now is your chance. The Tobacco Prevention and Control Coalition of Wichita Falls-Wichita County is offering FREE adult smoking cessation classes called FreshStart.  The classes will be held in one hour sessions, twice a week for two weeks for a total of four classes.
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays; June 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th from 5:30-6:30pm at the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District, 1700 Third Street, in the Clements Conference Room.  Enter through the entrance with the blue awning on the east side of the building. There is limited seating, participants are asked to contact Amanda Kennedy at 940-761-7840, or Arleen Weatherby at 940-761-7827 to reserve a spot, and/or for questions about the program.
According to the American Cancer Society, smokers who quit before age 35 prevent 90% of the risk of health problems from smoking. A smoker who quits before age 50 halves his or her risk of dying within the next 15 years, compared to someone who continues to smoke.

About the Program
Freshstart is the American Cancer Society’s group-based tobacco cessation counseling program. The program is designed to help participants stop smoking by providing essential information, skills for coping with cravings, and group support.
This straightforward, upbeat program is intended to stress the positives of the smoking cessation experience, the reasons to quit, the benefits of quitting  while honestly exploring the very real, unpleasant feelings that are a part of beating the addiction to nicotine and the habit of smoking. Freshstart focuses on an active, pragmatic approach to quitting smoking with each participant directing his or her own efforts to quit.
