While the theme of this year's Open House and Air Show at Sheppard Air Force Base is a "Salute To Warriors" I would like to add to that a salute to the Commemorative Air Force members and supporters who restore, maintain and fly several aircraft from American military history. Over the years I've been fascinated by the static displays they've had at various air shows and watched the fly overs. This year I got to strap in and go for a ride in the Yellow Rose, a B-25 bomber from World War II.
Come experience a different culture Friday, October 7th! The Midwestern State University Caribbean Students Organization presents Caribfest 2011. There will be delicious Caribbean cuisine, a festive parade, t-shirts, and a Glow Fete after party. Caribfest takes place on the university's Sunwatcher Plaza and all are welcome!

Brantley Gilbert is coming to Wichita Falls on December 9th to headline the 2011 Taste of Country Christmas Tour, but don't assume that the Georgia-born singer will carry on the holiday tradition a la Vince Gill and Amy Grant or John Berry. Gilbert is on the brink of stardom because his shows are as lively and rambunctious as anyone who headlines major arenas and amphitheaters right now. He's focused, emotional and honest. Sheppard Air Force Base is a huge part of the mosaic that makes up Wichita Falls. Even so, it's a part of our city that most of us don't get to visit very often. That's why it's always fun when they have an open house. Some years it's a big, blowout, Independence Day celebration. Other years it's an Air Show.
