Big & Rich Play A Rally, Faith Hill Gives A Piece Of Her Heart – Today In Country Music History

Big & Rich played a human rights rally in 2006, Faith Hill scored her second number one hit in 1994 and Merle Haggard had the number one Country song in the nation in 1974.

Here’s the list for Today In Country Music History for 30 April, 2012.

  • Big & Rich performed at a rally sponsored by human rights agencies in Washington, D.C. in 2006 to call attention on genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.
  • The third George Strait stadium festival tour became the first concert held at Nashville’s Adelphia Coliseum in 2000. Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, Mark Chesnutt, Asleep At The Wheel and Billy Gilman were also on the bill.
  • Dwight Yoakam played a grocery store employee in the “coming out” episode of ABC-TV’s Ellen, which also featured Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey and k.d. lang, in 1997.
  • Faith Hill‘s “Piece Of My Heart,” a cover of the Janis Joplin hit, became her second country Number One in 1994.
  • Rosanne Cash & Rodney Crowell scored a Number One single with “It’s Such A Small World” in 1988.
  • Merle Haggard recorded the Number One single “Old Man From The Mountain” in 1974.
