The news is spreading quickly that Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

What sad news for someone who’s influenced countless singers and musicians over the years. From his smooth, strong voice, to his melodic guitar work, to a signature model guitar from Ovation, Glen Campbell has been, and remains, a huge part of American music.

According to Taste Of Country, Glen is now 75 years old and was diagnosed six months ago. So often the diagnosis of this condition often comes after a frustrating battle with memory loss for years. I know. I have a friend here in Wichita Falls who’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and my own mother is also fighting this brutal illness. It’s incredibly difficult not only for the person afflicted, but for everyone who cares about them as well.

Here’s one of my favorite versions of Wichita Lineman, a Jimmy Webb song that was one of Glen’s biggest hits. He’s backed in this video by a very unlikely bunch of players, the Stone Temple Pilots, known more for their pop / rock sound than traditional country. It just goes to show what a huge impact Glen Campbell has made on all forms of American music.

Hopefully, Glen will respond well to the medications now available. We’re all pulling for you, Glen. Keep pickin’ and singin’ as long as you can.
