30th Annual Hotter N Hell Hundred

Well, I went to my first official Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred planning meeting today. It was held at Coyote Ranch Resort and was one of those brain-storming meetings with several people adding their perspective to what’s working and what’s not. I made a bunch of new friends and learned a lot about what goes into this huge event that pumps more than eight million dollars into our local economy in one weekend. In short, I had a blast!

I’ve been participating as a rider for the last fifteen or sixteen years, so I’m a little conflicted about moving over into the committee side of things because it means I probably won’t get to ride. What I WILL get to do, is help keep things moving smoothly at Finish Line Village. For those who aren’t familiar with the event, Finish Line Village is an all day outdoor party on the MPEC grounds. A place for friends and family members of the riders to hang out, listen to some live music, enjoy some Texas cookin’ and generally enjoy a beautiful summer day without swinging a leg over a bicycle seat. (I’d say without breaking a sweat, but this is August in Texas!)

The Ride – the 30th Annual Ride – will be Saturday, August 27th, but the event really kicks off on Thursday afternoon with the consumer show and packet pickup, and doesn’t finish until the Sunday events are finished. If you’ve never been a part of The Ride, this would be the year to start,or at least cruise on downtown to watch as more than 14,000 cyclists take on the Texas heat. You can find out more on the official Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred website, here.
